Matheus Cunha responds only three minutes afterwards. Leeds continue their longest Premier League undefeated streak since 2001. The Red Devils' poor run of form persisted at Elland Road, but manager Ruben Amorim had Matheus Cunha to thank for the team not suffering even more damage against their old rivals. The Everton loanee directed a first-half effort against the woodwork for the confident hosts before the American midfielder applied a cool finish with a low, 62nd-minute effort. At that stage, the United boss was in the firing line after his side had failed to beat struggling Wolves at home earlier in the week. However, against opponents who had less time to recover, the forward levelled three minutes later when he latched onto a pass from introduced the Dutchman and guided a finish underneath rushing Leeds goalkeeper Lucas Perri. It was only the South American's fourth Premier League goal since his big-money summer move and came at a time when Amorim is without four key attacking players due to a mix of fitness issues and national team commitments. Not that you would expect the hosts to care about that given their own tight schedule. The Swiss attacker forced a full length save out of visiting goalkeeper Senne Lammens with a audacious overhead kick, and United heads were in hands when Benjamin Sesko, who is finding it hard to make an impact, turned Zirkzee's cut-back wide from six yards out. Cunha, who had a goal disallowed for offside much earlier in the contest, also fired against a post late on. The draw prolongs the home side's unbeaten run to seven matches, their longest such streak since over two decades ago, and takes them eight points clear of the relegation zone. For the Manchester United though, it was yet another chance to move into fourth spot, albeit only for a matter of hours, wasted. Manchester United Breakdown: Amorim's Side Misfire Again With the AFCON reaching its latter stages, the United coach could be forgiven for hoping the participating nations make a swift exit. Existing injuries to skipper Bruno Fernandes and England international Mason Mount only exacerbated the impact the unavailability of other forwards is having on the team's squad. It's not that the absent players are the answer to all of United's problems. After all, they were part of the side that suffered poor results earlier in the campaign. But without them, Amorim has few alternatives in attack. He evidently does not trust youngster Shea Lacey or the much more experienced Zirkzee, even though the Dutch forward delivered the through ball for Cunha's equaliser almost instantly after his introduction as a replacement. That leaves Cunha, who has now scored a small tally in recent outings, and others operating out of their preferred positions, alongside Sesko. On this evidence, the expensive frontman looks no better than previous underwhelming signings, lacking in confidence and conviction in front of goal. Sesko's failure to turn home Zirkzee's cross means it is now nine games without a goal for the new signing. Leeds United Breakdown: Another Step Towards Survival After thrilling victories in their last few home games, the arrival of their fiercest rivals to Elland Road was a comparatively subdued affair. True, there were instances of typical fervor, but the hostile edge was not as evident as in other fixtures. The home fans were more preoccupied about their side's struggle to get sustained possession in dangerous areas for any length of time. The Calvert-Lewin header that clipped the post was an isolated moment of threat in a congested first half. It still felt as though the hosts were finding it tough when a defensive error opened the door for the opener. For a short moment, The home delirious fans thought they were about to secure a coveted win against Manchester United. Nevertheless, there is a much bigger picture for Daniel Farke and the club to deal with. When they suffered a poor run of form earlier in the season, many thought about the manager's future. Instead, he is now overseeing clear progress. The task is not done yet but gradually, the team are getting nearer to securing their survival. Looking Ahead The Yorkshire club have a Premier League trip to Newcastle in midweek, followed by the start of their FA Cup campaign next weekend. The Red Devils face a Premier League trip to Turf Moor before also beginning their cup journey with a Old Trafford tie.
